Sachem Beats Ward Melville in Hockey

Improve to 8-4 with 6-2 record over Patriots.

Finally with a 15 man roster, Sachem got Chris Porcillo back after serving a three-game suspension and not a minute to soon as he netted a hat trick in leading the Arrows to a 6-2 win over Ward Melville as their record climbs to 8-4.

Brian Giles kept Ward Melville off the score board by stopping many odd man rushes as he continued to be undefeated at the varsity level.

Erik Santiago, Chris Chizzonotti and Robbie Donnelly also tallied goals for Sachem.

"I think we took Ward Melville for granted, because after playing Connectquot (12-1) and Smithtown (14-0) we knew we needed to raise our level of play in order to stay competitive," said Sachem coach Al Possilico, "then we face Ward Melville, which is winless at 0-12, our players came out with no sense of worry, which caused us to not play our game."

According to Posillico, there was no back-checking from the forwards except for the Chris DiGiovanna line with wingers Brendon Smith and Anthony Dagastino.

"Our defense was not in normal mode and at times forgot to use the body which created many good opportunities for Ward Melville," he said. "If we are going to be considered a top team we must not let our game change because of who we are playing. Good teams should come and play at a high level at all times. It's good to get away from that two game losing streak and register another win."

The Arrows face-off against St. John's next Monday, December 12 at 8:10 p.m. at The Rinx in Hauppauge, N.Y.
