Sachem Central School District will be offering a Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program for children who turn four on or before Dec. 1, 2012 and are first eligible for Kindergarten during the 2013-2014 school year. The UPK calendar will follow Sachem’s school calendar; therefore, offering the program for 180 days. Each a.m. and p.m. session will run two-and-a-half hours in length. School selection and time preference will be considered, but not guaranteed. Transportation will not be provided.Â
Applications can be obtained from the district’s website, www.sachem.edu, at the Sachem Public Library and at all 12 elementary schools. Applications must be returned in person or mailed to the attention of: Jill M. Karp, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction - Elementary, Sachem Central Schools at 51 School Street, Lake Ronkonkoma, NY 11779. Applications must be received by 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 23. (If mailed, postmarked by March 23rd.) There will be no exceptions made for late applicants. Students will be selected for the program by lottery. Families will be notified during the week of April 30.
Information regarding the UPK program will be provided at an informational meeting on February 14, 2012, at 10:00 a.m at the Administrative Offices, Conference Room A (Located at 51 School Street, Lake Ronkonkoma, NY 11779.) Parents who are interested in hearing about the UPK program are invited to attend. We are looking forward to providing a high-quality pre-kindergarten program that prepares our students for future school success by developing strong foundational skills in early literacy. If you have any additional questions, you may contact Jill M.
