Sachem High School Stadiums To Light Up As Senior Tribute
The high school stadium lights will illuminate as a nod to graduating seniors on college signing day.
LAKE RONKONKOMA, NY — Joining high schools across Long Island, Sachem High School East and Sachem High School West will be honoring graduating seniors with a stadium light display Friday night. From 8:20 to 8:40 p.m. the lights and scoreboards will illuminate and read "2020" as a tribute to seniors and student athletes who will not be able to participate in traditional last games and announcements of what colleges they will be attending because of coronavirus school shutdowns.
May 1 is considered "National College Signing Day" and both Sachem high schools normally host ceremonies where students announce where they will be heading in the fall. Sachem school administrators are asking the community to turn home and business lights off and on at 8:20 p.m. to join the tribute. They also ask the public to maintain social distancing and watch the stadium light display from social media and the district website.
