Sachem HS East Senior Recognized With International Writing Award
Aman Rahman took 2nd place in Narrative's magazine's Tell Me a Story High School Contest writing during COVID-19 on his version of escape.

FARMINGVILLE, NY — The writing of a Sachem High School East student was recently recognized in an international writing contest where students were challenged to come up with their own version of escape while sequestered during COVID-19.
Senior Aman Rahman received 2nd place in the 6th annual Narrative magazine Tell Me a Story High School Contest for his poem, “Ivy.” Sarah Lao, a student in Georgia, took 1st place with "Triptych," and Elane Kim, of California, took 3rd place with "Aubade in the Aftermath."
Students from 19 countries, including the United States, Malaysia, Serbia, Uganda, China, Sweden, Turkey, South Africa, and the Philippines entered the contest, according to the contest's website. In the U.S., poems were received from 39 states and 174 cities and towns, officials said.

For the contest, students aged 15 to 18 were subject to an extensive judging process, and now Rahman's poem will be published in Narrative "alongside many of today’s best writers," school district officials said.
