Sachem School Budget Approved By Wide Margin

The budget includes a 2.49 percent increase in the school tax levy. An incumbent on the school board was ousted.

Residents in the Sachem School District have approved a 2020-21 school budget by a margin of 7,027-3,387.

The $333.4 million budget is a 1.87 percent increase over the current year and includes a 2.49 percent increase in the school tax levy, within the state's tax cap.

James Mancaruso, Robert Scavo and Matthew Baumann won seats on the school board.

All votes were via absentee ballot this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The number of votes cast this year was over 250 percent more than last year.
