Sachem Schools: Mixed Emotions Following Info Leak Arrest
While thanking investigators, the school district says it's a "time of great sadness for our Sachem Family."

Sachem Central School District says they have "very mixed emotions" following the Friday arrest of a 17-year-old facing felony charges for allegedly downloading student records and posting them on various websites.
The school district updated their website thanking Suffolk County Police, the district attorney's office and the FBI for their support, while saying that its a "time of great sadness for our Sachem Family."
"We continue to limit our comments so that we do not interfere with law enforcement and their investigation," the district said.
On Friday, Matthew Calicchio of Holbrook was charged with computer trespass, a felony. As previously reported, police say Calicchio accessed thousands of student records during 2012 and 2013 and this past August, Sachem school officials discovered someone had accessed the district's computer system illegally.
Over the past few weeks, the district alerted the community to the leaks as information appeared on a series of websites that would go online and later be taken down.
According to the district, the information posted online this month included a list of 15,000 names with student ID numbers and school lunch designation (with no other information attached appearing to be a list from the early 2000s), a list of 12,000 names with student ID numbers with no other information (of which all but 900 were included in the first list), student records relating to approximately 360 students who graduated from Sachem High School East in 2008 and a report relating to approximately 130 students who attended Sachem High School North receiving instructional services in an alternative setting during the 2010-2011 school year.
The investigation is continuing and police are asking anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact Computer Crimes at 631-852-6572.
