Sachem Students Paint Mural for SCPD

Emergency Services Sector honored with mural from art students.

Art students from Sachem High School North completed a mural painting at the Suffolk County Police Emergency Service Section Thursday afternoon.

At least one dozen teens spent more than 100 hours since October sketching and painting various examples of emergency services work from a sniper section to the bomb squad and swat units.

According to Suffolk Police, some of the paintings were inspired by photos the students viewed of members of the Emergency Service Section at work while others created original scenes.

“We really appreciate the kids coming out and doing this,” said Suffolk Police Lieutenant Kevin Burke. “It’s good for us to work with the students. As our guys go out on duty, they’re going to be passing that every day and it’s a nice depiction of what they do.”

The Emergency Service Section has been teaming up with local school districts on similar projects since 2008. This type of project is a way for school districts and its students to learn more about the police department and build relationships with the officers who serve their community.
