Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued For Long Island

LONG ISLAND, NY — The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Long Island. It's in effect until 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Hail the size of ping pong balls and wind gusts up to 70 mph are possible. The highest chance of storms on the island will be from about 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., the weather service says.

Tuesday afternoon- A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 5pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 90. West wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.
Tuesday night- A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming clear, with a low around 65. Northwest wind 9 to 14 mph.

Wednesday- Sunny, with a high near 78. North wind 9 to 14 mph.
Wednesday Night- A 20 percent chance of showers after 3am. Mostly clear, with a low around 65. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light after midnight.
Thursday- A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 84. Light southeast wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Thursday Night- A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69.
Friday- A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 83.
