Shanahan to Play for U.S. Men's Lax Team at Champion Challenge

Will play against top collegiate and international competition in January.

Sachem alum and lacrosse icon Doug Shanahan will suit up for the U.S. team again in 2012. This time he'll play on the U.S. National Men's Senior Lacrosse team at the Champion Challenge, an event where the U.S. will face off against top collegiate and international competition at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., Jan. 27-29.

According to U.S. Lacrosse, the 21-member U.S. men's senior team will play the University of Denver Sunday, Jan. 29.

Shanahan is listed on the U.S. roster as No. 26, the same number that he has retired at and Hofstra University, where he won the innaugural Tewaaraton Trophy as the top collegiate lacrosse player in the nation.

A 1997 graduate of Sachem, Shanahan is a lacrosse coach and teacher at Pine Crest Preparatory School in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. He enjoyed a seven-year career in Major League Lacrosse before retiring in 2009.

Shanahan helped the U.S. team win a world title in 2002 and was an All-World selection and won championship MVP honors. He competed for the U.S. team in 2006 as well.
