Special Waste Drop Off Day In Holbrook On Sept. 21

Islip residents with items that should not be put out with regular waste can be brought to Holbrook.

Written by Judy Mottl.

The Town of Islip S.T.O.P. (Stop Throwing Out Pollutants) program has set September 21 as the day residents can drop off specific items that should not be put out with regular waste pickup. Hours for drop-off are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the town facility on Lincoln Avenue in Holbrook.

The S.T.O.P. effort is focused on a wide variety of products, from automotive fluids to empty propane tanks and items such as aerosol cans and non-latex paints.

There are several categories of products that are not accepted such as ammunitions, radioactive materials, pharmaceuticals, unlabeled materials and explosives such as fireworks.

Town residents must provide proof of residency when dropping off the items such as paint, pool chemicals, garden supplies, insecticides and e-waste.
