State Pols Plan Honor For Everyday Heroes Who Stepped Up In COVID
The Lighthouse Initiative will honor those who have gone above and beyond in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Senate Districts.

ALBANY, NY — A group of state lawmakers from Long Island are planning a special honor called the Lighthouse Initiative as a way of recognizing everyday heroes who stepped up during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Senate’s Republican delegation has created the Lighthouse Initiative to honor men and women who have gone above and beyond during the coronavirus pandemic “to help make their communities a better place,” according to a news release. The delegation is now accepting applications in which constituents can nominate residents from the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Senate Districts in Suffolk County.
Sen. Alexis Weik described the last year as “exceptionally challenging,” but despite that, she noted there have been so many people who have gone “above and beyond to help others.”

“They are the first to offer a helping hand and are there every single day to help those in need,” he said. “Like a lighthouse for our residents, they led the way through this past year and I am proud to join with my Senate colleagues to show our deep appreciation.”
