Victory! Sachem Captures NYS Field Hockey Title

If you thought Sachem East's semifinal game Saturday against Greene was a nail biter, Sunday's championship against Mamaroneck was even more exhilarating.

After a scoreless regulation and two scoreless overtime periods, Sachem East beat Mamaroneck on strokes, 1-0, to capture its first New York State Class A championship in Syracuse.

Sachem East (21-1) has had its most successful season in program history, winning county, island, and state titles for the first time.

Sachem beat Greene (Section IV) on strokes as well. After that game, coach Tina Moon said strokes are a major strength of her team as they have practiced that specialty play throughout the season. Caruana scored Saturday as well.

This is the first Sachem team to win a state championship since the East girls basketball team won in 2009.
