This Year, Holtsville Hal Will Appear Via Facebook Live Stream
The Brookhaven Groundhog Day celebration goes virtual in 2021.
HOLTSVILLE, NY — Holtsville Hal is Suffolk County's resident weather predictor, but this year he will appear via virtual stream due to the pandemic. On February 2, Brookhaven Superintendent Daniel P. Losquadro will announce Hal's Groundhog Day prediction on a Facebook live stream.
Holtsville Hal will emerge at 7:25 a.m. and the online ceremony can be viewed here.
“Our annual Groundhog Day celebration is an enjoyable tradition for many local families,” Superintendent Losquadro said.

“While we are disheartened that we will not be able to open the ceremony to members of the public this year due to potential COVID risks, families will still be able to see Holtsville Hal and learn of his prognostication.”
