LAKE GROVE, NY - Nearly 100 people will be losing their jobs at the JCPenney in Lake Grove when it shuts down this summer, according to a new WARN notice released last week on the NY Department of Labor website.

A company spokesperson confirmed in February that the department store, located in the Smith Haven Mall, will be closing on July 5.

"This decision is the result of an ongoing review of our store portfolio, which includes assessing locations that may not meet our required financial targets or represent an opportunity to capitalize on a beneficial real estate asset," spokeperson Dana Harrington said in a statement. "It's never easy taking actions that directly impact our valued associates and customers, however we feel this is a necessary business decision."
