Baby Delivered In Lake Grove After Dispatcher's Quick Thinking

A mom and dad successfully had their baby girl after an emergency service trainee gave concise advice over the phone.

LAKE GROVE, NY — It's a girl!

A baby was successfully delivered in a Lake Grove parking lot on Tuesday afternoon thanks to advice from Stephanie Bukowinski, a Suffolk County FRES Emergency Service Dispatcher trainee. Bukowinski, over the phone, helped the girl's parents bring her into the world, according to a Facebook post from the organization.

The mother, while in labor, called at 3:13 p.m. while she was in the car with her husband. The duo was trying to get to a nearby hospital and asked for an ambulance to be dispatched.

Bukowinski calmly convinced the couple to pull over and wait for help to arrive. The couple pulled over into a nearby parking lot and Bukowinski determined that the baby’s head was crowning. She gave instructions, and, shortly after, the parents had a baby girl.

Reports indicate the newborn and the family are doing well, according to the organization.
