Draperies or Curtains: Which is it?

After 35 years as an owner of a Custom Window Treatment shop the one call we receive frequently is the request for Curtains. You would think that type of request would make perfect sense for someone who sells and installs Window Treatments for a living but I am here to set the record straight. In the world of “Custom” we like to refer to those fabric panels that border your windows so gracefully as Draperies and to be more precise Custom Draperies. In my world curtains are typically pre made and offered as a one size fits all alternative to custom Draperies. Curtains are also limited to the patterns and colors any given retailer has in stock at the time of your visit, which may or may not be what you had in mind to decorate your new Living Room. On the other hand Custom Draperies are made to fit your windows perfectly and will allow you to select from thousands of different patterns and colors so that you get exactly what you are looking for. Not only will Custom Draperies allow you to find a fabric that matches both your personality and room décor but they are made to last for years. On average a custom drapery will be on a window for 15 years or more which will help offset the added cost of purchasing Custom Draperies instead of Curtains.
