Driver Trapped In 2-Car Smithtown Collision

The driver was pinned following the Thursday night crash and needed to be freed by Smithtown firefighters.

SMITHTOWN, NY — A two-car collision resulted in a driver being pinned in their car on Thursday night in Smithtown, according to Rick Torre, Smithtown Fire Department public information officer.

The crash was reported at 7:01 p.m. on Maple and Fifth avenues. Chief of Department Patrick Diecidue found one occupant was pinned. Firefighters used the "jaws of life" to free them within 20 minutes of the call.

One patient was brought to Stony Brook University Hospital, while another was brought to St. Catherine's. Both suffered injuries that are not life-threatening, Torre said.
