Local Dance Costume Manufacturer Moving Jobs to Georgia

The company will move the jobs by July 1.

Some manufacturing jobs from a Smithtown-based dance costume maker will soon be heading down south by July 1.

According to a Newsday [subscription required] report, Art Stone Inc./The Competitor will move 36 manufacturing jobs to Georgia this summer, but will still work on Long Island with a staff of 65.

"Labor costs are cheaper down there," Chief Financial Officer Ira Plutner told Newsday.

"Consolidating our production arm will allow our company to continue to manufacture costumes in the U.S. and continue to grow the Art Stone/The Competitor brand," said Vice President of Operations Ashley Stone in a statement.

According to the Newsday report, the Smithtown location would keep specialized manufacturing and design department, accounting and data processing operations and customer service jobs, as well as its retail store.
