Man Killed After Crashing Into Box Truck In Smithtown

The 33-year-old man rear-ended the box truck early Thursday, police say.

SMITHTOWN, NY — A man was killed in a crash early Thursday in Smithtown, Suffolk police said.

James Turek was driving a 2007 Nissan Altima east on Route 347, just east of Terry Road, when he rear-ended an eastbound box truck around 1:15 a.m., police said.

Turek, 33, of Mount Sinai, was brought to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the box truck, a man, was brought to the same hospital for an evaluation.
