MLK Day 2019: What's Open, Closed In Smithtown
Check out what's open and what's closed before heading out on Monday.

SMITHTOWN, NY — While most Long Islanders will be going to work on Martin Luther King Jr. Day just like any other Monday, but that doesn't mean everything will run as usual.
MLK Day is a federal holiday marking the birth of the renowned civil rights leader, so many government buildings and other establishments in Smithtown will be closed.
Here's a rundown of how the holiday could impact your routine:

Government Buildings
- Local public schools are closed.
- Town, state and federal government buildings, including courts and post offices, are closed.
- Mail will not be delivered.
- Most banks will be closed.
- Libraries will be closed.
Transportation

- The Long Island Rail Road will run on a regular weekday schedule with off-peak fares.
Trash pickup
- Trash, recycling and organics pickup will not occur on Monday, Jan. 21. Street cleaning won't, either.
- If Monday is your normal trash or organics pickup day, put your materials out after 4 p.m. Monday.
- If Monday is your normal recycling pickup day, put your materials out after 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27.
