LONG ISLAND, NY — Powerful winds, heavy rain and even a little snow are possible on Long Island this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

A hazardous weather outlook was issued for the area.

A deepening low pressure system is expected to pass south of Long Island on Saturday. The storm will bring heavy rain at the onset, which could produce minor urban and poor drainage flooding, the weather service says.

As the storm intensifies and tracks east of the area, the rain may transition to snow Saturday evening. No snow accumulation is expected on Long Island, but a few inches of wet snow is possible north and west of New York City.

Strong northeast winds will gust around 45 mph Saturday. This could cause minor coastal flooding with the Saturday morning high tides.
