Smithtown Adoptable Pet Of The Week: Nubbins

SMITHTOWN, NY — Nubbins, a 3-to-4-year-old female domestic shorthair mix, was named the Smithtown Animal Shelter's Pet of the Week.

Nubbins spent part of her early life as a shop cat, according to the shelter.

"One day, she showed up to the shop missing part of her tail as a result of some unknown trauma," the shelter wrote in a statement. "Fortunately, the excellent Animal Shelter vets managed to amputate the damaged part of her tail, and now she's healthy and ready to find a furrever home!

"She is a sweet and affectionate little lady who can always put a smile on your face. Nubbins is the ultimate flirt and loves getting attention! She will roll around on her back and chirp to let you know she needs some TLC."

Nubbins has experience living with other cats. She would also do well in a home with children young or old, according to the shelter.

Currently, there are a variety of male and female cats & kittens available to adopt or foster.

All of the felines at the shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc.) by a board-certified veterinarian.
Due to the coronavirus, the Smithtown Animal Shelter has had to restrict public access to confirmed adoption appointments and animal/wildlife rescue. Hours are currently Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays and Wednesday evenings are by appointment only.

The Smithtown Animal Shelter's primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to it. The Animal Control Officers and kennel attendants at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another. If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member into the shelter or they can set up an at-home meet & greet to see how your prospective new addition does with other family members, pets or the household itself.

The shelter is also seeking foster volunteers. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens and dogs in their own homes. Some animals need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for an extended time.
