Smithtown Adoptable Pets Of The Week: Popcorn & Pretzel
Popcorn and Pretzel, a pair of 10-month-old kittens, grew up in a cat-hoarding situation and would like to be adopted together.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Dynamic duo Popcorn and Pretzel are the Smithtown Animal Shelter's Pets of the Week.
Popcorn is a female 10-month-old orange domestic shorthair, while Pretzel is a male 10-month-old gray and white domestic shorthair. The salty snack-inspired pair are great friends who would like to be adopted together, according to the shelter. They grew up in a cat-hoarding situation with very little human interaction.
"Fortunately, after a few months in the care of the Animal Shelter, they’ve started to come out of their shells," the shelter wrote. "Popcorn is the more outgoing of the two, but Pretzel still has a lot of love to give and is always sticking by Popcorn’s side!"

The pair's ideal home would be a quiet, adult-only space without dogs, according to the shelter. Popcorn and Pretzel are used to living with other cats, so they would get along well with potential kitten siblings.
Currently, there are a variety of male and female cats & kittens available to adopt or foster.

"If you are looking for a fun-loving, yarn tossing ball of love, stop by the Kitten Nursery or the Cat Condos at the Smithtown Animal Shelter and find a PURR-fect soulmate or two," the shelter stated.
All of the felines at the shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc.) by a board-certified veterinarian.
Due to the coronavirus, the Smithtown Animal Shelter has had to restrict public access to confirmed adoption appointments and animal/wildlife rescue. Hours are currently Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays and Wednesday evenings are by appointment only.

The Smithtown Animal Shelter's primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to it. The Animal Control Officers and kennel attendants at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another. If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member into the shelter or they can set up an at-home meet & greet to see how your prospective new addition does with other family members, pets or the household itself.
The shelter is also seeking foster volunteers. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens and dogs in their own homes. Some animals need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for an extended time.
