Smithtown FCCLA Teams Headed To Nationals

Both high schools' Family, Community and Career Leaders of America chapters competed in their first New York state virtual competition.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Smithtown High School East and Smithtown High School West’s Family, Community and Career Leaders of America chapters recently competed in their first New York state virtual competition, the school district announced.

Between the two Smithtown high schools, nine teams competed in these categories: early childhood education, event management, food innovation, interior design, hospitality tourism and recreation, nutrition and wellness, and teach and train.

Students were guided by their advisers: Connie Smith and Jaclyn Fettinger from Smithtown High School East and Rachel Silsdorf from Smithtown High School West.

Smithtown High School West finished with four silver and two bronze medals, while Smithtown High School East finished with one gold, one silver and one bronze medal.

Both sides had two competition teams with the highest scores in their category, qualifying them for the national competition. The national competition is due to take place in late April virtually.

The Smithtown school district congratulated the following students:

  • From Smithtown High School East – Trishaulla Kanhai, Alexandra Shepherd and Arianna Rava (gold, hospitality, tourism and recreation, advancing to nationals); Rebecca Albahae and Andrea DiLeo (bronze, nutrition and wellness); and Bridget Keudesdorf (silver, teach and train, advancing to nationals).
  • From Smithtown High School West: Alyssa Allocca (bronze, early childhood education); Sofia Burns, Madison Dominger and Fabiana Gorre (silver, event management, advancing to nationals); Mackenna Bath, Kerry Bresnahan and Amanda Froehlich (silver, food innovations); Brianna Gugliamo and Gabby Steinmeyer (silver, food innovations, advancing to nationals); Gabrielle Bowers (bronze, interior design); and Madeline Raeihle (silver, event management, advancing to nationals).
