ST. JAMES, NY — Smithtown Nissan closed after it lost its contract with Nissan, Newsday reported. The dealership, at 535 Middle Country Road, was embroiled in a multi-year disagreement over who owns the franchise, according to Newsday. Nissan North America, Inc.told Smithtown Nissan in a letter that its ownership disputes and insufficient wholesale financing plan violated their dealer sales and service agreement, Newsday reported.

Smithtown Nissan said it would be closing temporarily in a late September email to customers. It cited "unforeseen circumstances" as the reason for its closure, adding that it would not reopen until further notice.
