Smithtown Police Blotter: Man KO'd By Another Man In Dispute

The man's attacker was screaming at him during a traffic incident in which they both got out of their cars, police say.

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Jan. 23: Reckless endangerment (second-degree) was reported at Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove at 7:57 p.m. Two to three youths were riding ATVs in the common area of Smith Haven Mall, which caused risk of serious injuries to patrons and employees, police said. The kids were gone by the time police arrived.
  • Jan. 22: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Mobrey Lane in Smithtown at 2:30 p.m. Someone called a woman and told her that her grandson was being detained, police said. The caller stole money from the woman, police said.
  • Jan. 21: Identity theft (first-degree) was reported on Francis Street in Nesconset from Nov. 17, 2020, at midnight. Someone stole someone else's identity and used their personal information to access their bank account and take money, police said.
  • Jan. 21: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported at McGaw Avenue in Lake Grove at noon. Someone purchased multiple gift cards and then read the serial numbers over the phone to a scammer, police said.
  • Jan. 21: Assault was reported on Alexander Avenue in St. James at 9:20 p.m. A woman hit another woman in the face multiple times at Umberto's, police said. The woman was brought to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said. The woman fled in a vehicle with two other women who attempted to get the woman off the victim, police said.
  • Jan. 18: Assault was reported on Necsonset Boulevard in Smithtown from Jan. 17 at 8:25 a.m. A man left his car and approached another man's window, screaming that the other driver buzzed the side of his vehicle, police said. The complainant got out of his car and exchanged words with the other man, who hit the complainant in the face, knocking him out, police said. When the man woke up, his attacker was gone, and he felt pain in his head and elbow, police said. He drove himself to the hospital where he was diagnosed with contusions to his head and elbow, as well as a broken jaw, police said.
  • Jan. 18: Criminal mischief (third-degree) was reported on North Country Road in St. James at 1:13 a.m. Someone damaged a fiberglass horse-head statue outside The Greenhouse Antique & Collectibles, police said.
  • Jan. 18: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Gabrielle Court in St. James from Jan. 17 at 3:30 a.m. Someone entered an unlocked 2017 Ford and stole a medical catalog and pocketknife, police said.
  • Jan. 17: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported on Alo Court in St. James at 5 a.m. Someone stole a couple of pairs of sunglasses and cologne from a 2018 Mercedes and 2020 Ford, police said.
  • Jan. 17: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported on James Place in St. James at 4:15 a.m. Someone opened a 2008 Ford car door and stole cash and debit cards, police said.
