Smithtown Police Blotter: Woman Scammed Out Of Money
Someone called her to tell her that her grandson was in prison, and she sent money, police say.

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.
- April 30: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Bishops Road in Smithtown from April 29 at 9 a.m. A woman said she received a call on April 29 saying her grandson was in prison, police said. The woman sent a large sum of money via messenger service to have him released, but it turned out to be a scam, police said.
- April 26: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Middle Country Road in St. James at 2:28 a.m. Someone in a 1997 Dodge drove over and damaged a fence to gain access to Nardy Honda Service Center in St. James around 2:30 a.m. April 26, police said. The person stole 10 tires and rims from vehicles in the car lot before fleeing, police said.
- April 25: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported at Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove at 2:30 p.m. A man entered Macy's at 2:30 a.m. April 25 and stole assorted clothing, police said.
