Smithtown Police Blotter: Woman Scammed Out Of Money

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

• April 30: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Bishops Road in Smithtown from April 29 at 9 a.m. A woman said she received a call on April 29 saying her grandson was in prison, police said. The woman sent a large sum of money via messenger service to have him released, but it turned out to be a scam, police said.
• April 26: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Middle Country Road in St. James at 2:28 a.m. Someone in a 1997 Dodge drove over and damaged a fence to gain access to Nardy Honda Service Center in St. James around 2:30 a.m. April 26, police said. The person stole 10 tires and rims from vehicles in the car lot before fleeing, police said.
• April 25: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported at Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove at 2:30 p.m. A man entered Macy's at 2:30 a.m. April 25 and stole assorted clothing, police said.
