Smithtown Students Take 1st in State Stage Competition
Local thespians and techs faced off against 700 high school students from throughout New York.

Smithtown High School West’s Thespian Troupe and Stage Tech Club recently won first place in the Stage Tech Challenge competition at the 18th Annual Student Conference of the New York State Theatre Education Association in Callicoon, New York.
More than 700 high school students from throughout the state attended more than 100 workshops in technical theater, acting, dance and voice. Representatives from area colleges and universities, as well as other theater professionals, provided expert instruction.
“Meeting and sharing interests with other similarly-minded students from every region of the state is important in working collaboratively, gaining self-confidence and exploring new areas of learning,” said Jim Brannigan, adviser of the HSW Thespian Troupe.
