Smithtown West Girls Soccer Last LI Team Nationally Ranked

The team has allowed just one goal against all season. See how far it climbed in this week's rankings.

SMITHTOWN, NY — There's something special brewing on the soccer field of Smithtown High School West.

The girls soccer team recorded two more wins since Oct. 10, improving its record to 10-0-1 this season. The girls were rewarded in the United Soccer Coaches poll, as the team is now in a three-way tie for the No. 11 ranking. Smithtown West is also the last girls soccer team on Long Island that remains nationally ranked, as Syosset and St. Anthony's fell from the rankings; Syosset dropped a 1-0 match to Massapequa, though St. Anthony's removal is puzzling.

As far as this week goes, Smithtown West defeated North Babylon on the road 2-0 on Oct. 10. The team's Oct. 16 2-0 victory over Half Hollow Hills East wasn't accounted for in this week's rankings jump. The team was ranked No. 17 last week.

The squad has allowed just one goal to opponents this season, outscoring the opposition 28-1 in its 11 games. That is likely a strong factor behind the No. 11 ranking, as teams ranked both ahead and behind Smithtown West have won more games, albeit having also played more games.
