Soup-er Bowl of Caring in Smithtown

Mills Pond students collect 1,400 cans of food for Long Island Cares.

Students in the Mills Pond Elementary School Cares Club organized the school’s annual “Soup-er Bowl” food drive, collecting just under 1,400 cans of food that were donated to Long Island Cares Food Bank.

Soup-er Bowl is a national effort to capitalize on the hype created around the NFL’s Super Bowl as a time to mobilize youth to fight hunger in their local communities.

Mills Pond’s Cares Club, a group of fourth-graders dedicated to activities that benefit charitable causes, donated, collected and assembled the food over several weeks. Diana Lanze, Kristin Quail and Melissa Taylor are the club’s advisers.
