Town Of Smithtown Coronavirus Updates: 1,800 Cases Surpassed
Here's what town of Smithtown residents should know about the new coronavirus.
TOWN OF SMITHTOWN, NY — The number of people with the new coronavirus, which causes the disease COVID-19, hit 1,815 in the Town of Smithtown as of Wednesday afternoon. There are now 33,935 confirmed cases in Suffolk County. The county death toll hit 1,131.
New York State's stay-at-home order was extended to May 15 by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. However, Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Sunday gave details about restarting the state's economy, saying manufacturing and construction will lead its reopening.

TESTING
The drive-thru new coronavirus testing center is at Stony Brook University. If you are showing symptoms, you can call the hotline to be triaged by a nurse and set up an appointment.
Residents can make appointments by calling 1-888-364-3065.
SCHOOLS
All state schools will be closed until May 15, as Cuomo's stay-at-home extension includes educational facilities. The same goes for non-essential businesses.
On Sunday, Cuomo sounded less optimistic that schools could return around mid-May, noting it would have to come in conjunction with a large-scale business reopening.

Kids in the Town of Smithtown were encouraged by the Town of Smithtown Youth Bureau to participate in Global Youth Service Day, which actually lasts until June 19. It's a way for kids around the world to give back to their communities, which is especially important right now because of the coronavirus. Click here for more details on how to participate.
All Town parks and beaches with playgrounds have been forced to close due to large groups not adhering to social distancing, officials said.
The Smithtown Senior Center is closed until further notice, according to the Smithtown website.
The Smithtown Municipal Services Facility, at 85 Old Northport Road, is now open to the public. Bagged mulch is expected to resume services in the coming weeks.
Residents are asked to refrain from placing bags of leaves and brush on the curbside temporarily, as the Town's workforce has been cut back to accommodate state workforce reductions. Public access has been restricted at all Town buildings.
The Smithtown Historical Society canceled all activities and classes through April.
The Diocese of Rockville Centre announced that all funerals, weddings and other services at Catholic churches across Long Island are canceled. Cuomo signed an executive order to reopen marriage bureaus across the state and give clerks the authority to perform marriage ceremonies via video conferences.
