Traffic Calming Study for East Main Street, Smithtown Bypass
Every 18 months; Traffic Calming Studies for high impact interactions can be scheduled. Maltese asks NYS DOT and SmithTown Highways for it
On June 30th, 2021; an auto collision occurred at the intersection of East Main Street/Smithtown Byass in early afternoon. The intersection is across from Smithtown Library and Smithtown Cultural Institutions; and is heavily utilized by Pedestrian usage. Pedestrian Sidewalks are in place for Pedestrian Public Safety; the accident occurred during afternoon hours.
Notice to Smithtown Highways was submitted asking for review of the intersection to certify if present conditions meet State and Federal Highway Public Safety Standards. Every 18 months; due an intersection that experiences high volume of traffic accidents can be reviewed to determine if present or new Public Safety Standards are in place or must be met.
The location houses many Pedestrian Friendly establishments and business and clearly; review and installation of additional traffic calming devices is in order.

To support the request; I encourage local residents and business owners to submit a complaint or add on to Maltese's Smithtown Highway Complaint supporting the request.
