Ghost Adventures Stirs Up Activity at Katie's Bar

The television film crew of Ghost Adventures locked down at Katie's in Smithtown last Thursday and they were not disappointed, according to owner  Brian Karppinen. 

"Ghost Adventures," a popular Travel Channel show, rented out Katie's in Smithtown from Wednesday to Friday, Karppinen said, to search for evidence of the bar's famous ghosts and investigate new poltergeists. 

Nesconset Man Sentenced For Failing to Pay $114K in Taxes

A Nesconset man was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to pay the state $203,275 in in restitution for failing to pay personal income taxes for several years. 

According to the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, Richard Edelson, 44, did not pay income taxes from 2004-2008. Edelson, a forensic accountant, was convicted of failure to file a return or report, a misdemeanor

Frustrated Parents Picket Flanagan's Office Over High-Stakes Testing

Hundreds of parents, teachers, and community members lined the streets in front of State Sen. John Flanagan's office on Friday chanting that high-stakes testing needs to change.

Educators define high-stakes testing as an exam that has important consequences. Many teachers feel the amount of testing that is being done to children through the new standards is just unacceptable. 

Smithtown Strikes Settlement with Garbage Carting Firm

Smithtown Town officials have reached a legal settlement agreement with the garbage carting firm whose employees were accused of stealing more than $200,000 in a recycling scheme last August.

Some of the finest restaurants on Long Island and the East End will serve $27.95 prix fixe meals beginning Sunday when the annual Long Island Restaurant week kicks off.

More than 150 restaurants are participating in the event, which runs until Nov. 10.Included in the prix fixe menu prices is a three-course meal every night, with the exception of Saturdays when prix fixe dinners will only be served until 7 p.m.
