West Boys Soccer Wins Suffolk Championship in Shoot Out

West Bulls to compete for Long Island championship on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.

Smithtown West boys soccer won the Suffolk championship title after a tense 110 nail-biting minutes of action. 

The No.1-seeded West Bulls beat Central Islip in the Suffolk Class AA championship in a penalty shootout, 5-3, Newsday reports.

West's goalkeeper Adem Altinerlielmas lifted the team to victory, both scoring on the second of five penalty kicks, before immediately turning around and diving to deny a point to Central Islip striker Carlos Iparraguirre. 

Despite an earlier threat resulting in the arrest of a Bay Shore teen, no violence or outbreaks occurred at Dowling's stadium after the Smithtown West boys team beat Central Islip for the county title. 

Smithtown West boys soccer, with a 19-0-1 record, will play against Massapequa for the Long Island Championship this Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Mitchell Athletic Complex, 1 Charles Lindbergh Blvd, Uniondale,
