West Football Beats North Babylon to Qualify for Playoffs

East High School Football came up short against East Islip on Saturday.

Smithtown West varsity football team will advance into the playoffs on Friday, hopeful to avenge the loss of East Bulls football. 

Smithtown West Bulls varsity football beat North Babylon 57- 46 in the qualifying round of the Suffolk Division I playoffs on Friday, Newsday reports. 

West's Ryan Keenan caught a 21-yard pass from Matt Heldberg with only seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter to put Smithtown ahead, 50-46, and launch the No. 2-seeded team into the quarterfinals. 

Senior Kyle Mathie also had a career record high of 192 receiving yards and five touchdowns on seven passes in the game against North Babylon. 

Smithtown West will continue on against No. 3-ranked East Islip, who eliminated the East Bulls varsity football team by score of 35-21 on Saturday. 

Smithtown East was ahead of East Islip until mid-way through third quarter when Erik Adon scored a 51-yard rushing touchdown to make the score 20-14. Adon would score another touchdown with eight minutes left in the game to bring the score to 28-14 and eliminate the East Bulls. 

Smithtown West will host East Islip at 6 p.m. on Friday. Admission is $6.
