3 Syosset Parks Now Dog-Friendly

SYOSSET, NY — Syosset dog owners and their furry friends are about to have a lot more options when it comes to going on walks.

Oyster Bay Town officials on Tuesday announced that leashed dogs are now allowed at a dozen neighborhood parks throughout the town, including three in Syosset and one in Jericho. The initiative builds upon efforts to make town facilities more dog-friendly, officials said in a news release. This includes upgrading the town's existing dog park on the south shore and construction of a new north shore facility, which is ongoing.

"Our pets are like family, and residents have been requesting that we give consideration to allowing them to enjoy our facilities with their dogs," Joe Saladino, the town supervisor, said. "We are pleased to be able to unveil these new dog-friendly locations for our residents and their furry friends!"

The town board recently voted to allow pets at certain neighborhood parks based on how they're used and where they're located. New signs now designate where pets are welcome. They must be leashed. Dogs are only allowed at designated locations.

"As a dog lover and owner of two, I understand how enjoyable it is to bring our pets on outings where they can enjoy the nice weather and get some exercise," Councilman Steve Labriola said. "I've spoken with many residents who have expressed their desires to walk their dogs at local neighborhood parks, and I immediately began working with the Parks Department to make that dream a reality."

Dogs are now allowed at the following parks:

• Hunter Lane and Hollins Road, Hicksville
• Tudor Road and Lyon Court, Hicksville
• Lincoln Street and Meadow Court, Farmingdale
• Maytime Drive and Mellow Lane, Jericho
• Flamingo Drive and Caffrey Avenue, Bethpage
• Burton Lane and Unqua Road, Massapequa
• Clocks Blvd. & Bayview Place, Massapequa
• Pittsburgh Avenue and Westwood Road, Massapequa
• Sylvia Lane and Warren Place, Plainview
• Split Rock Road and Radley Drive, Syosset
• Market Drive and Woodbury Road, Syosset
• Townsend Drive and Cold Spring Road, Syosset
