$616 Million In Unclaimed Money Owed To Long Islanders
The state comptroller would like you to take your cash off the state's hands. Here's the free link to check if you have cash coming.

The State of New York is safeguarding nearly $5.1 billion in unclaimed cash belonging to more than 8 million New Yorkers as of September 2018, and State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli is urging owners to take steps to retrieve it.
The loot includes forgotten bank accounts, uncashed checks, insurance policy proceeds, stocks and safe deposit box contents. About $348 million unclaimed funds were returned in New York in 2018 so far, the comptroller reports.
According to the comptroller, Long Island has 1,180,959 unclaimed accounts with a total value of $615,889,992 as of September 2018.

- Nassau County has 619,571 unclaimed accounts with a total value of $355,371,975.
- Suffolk County has 561,386 unclaimed accounts with a total value of $260,518,017.
New York State says it returns $1 million each day to those who file a claim.
People who think they have unclaimed property can visit a state database for free and fill out a secure claim form online for most property. Some items may need additional proof of ownership.
