7 LI Companies Make 2018 List Of Best Midsize Employers: Forbes

Book publisher Penguin Random House is the best midsize employer for 2018 in America, according to Forbes’ annual rankings of best employers in the country. The shoe and clothing company New Balance, along with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, L.L. Bean and TripAdvisor all made the top 10.

Forbes’ rankings were released on Tuesday and include 500 companies that have at least 1,000 employees. On the list are seven companies that are based on Long Island. The highest ranked Long Island company on the list is Dealertrack Technologies (No. 25), which is headquartered in Lake Success.

• Zebra Technologies— Holtsville, No. 145*
• OpenLink— Uniondale, No. 214
• Canon— Melville, No. 271
• Comtech Telecommunications— Melville, No. 435
• Summit Security Services— Uniondale, No. 491

*Zebra Technologies is based out of Lincolnshire, Illinois, but has a large employee base in Holtsville.

Six midsize employers from Long Island made Forbes' list last year. Dealertrack Technologies also moved up more than 100 spots from 2017 to 2018. View the list here.

Forbes partnered with market research company Statista to compile the list. Statista surveyed 30,000 people, asking respondents to rate how likely they’d be to recommend their employer to others, Forbes explains. Respondents were also asked to nominate organizations outside of their own, according to Forbes.

Penguin Random House jumped 32 spots to claim the No. 1 ranking on the list. Forbes says an entrepreneurial spirit shapes the employee experience at the company, playing a big role in recruiting as well as retention.
