JERICHO, NY — A Queens man was arrested at a Jericho motel after police said he tried to steal a car in Hicksville and upon being confronted by the owner fled in another car that was stolen days earlier.

A man saw Raffael Giles, 43, of Woodhaven Boulevard, try to break into his car on Broadway in Hicksville, police said. The owner confronted Giles and ordered him to get out of the vehicle. Giles complied and immediately got into a silver Acura nearby and drove off before police officers arrived, Nassau County police said.

Officers searched the area and found the silver Acura parked at the Jericho Motel on Jericho Turnpike. Investigators soon determined the car had been reported stolen several days earlier. Giles was found hiding in a vacant hotel room and was arrested without further incident around 1 a.m. Monday, police said.
