OLD BROOKVILLE, NY — A large area of Brookville lost power over the weekend when an SUV crashed into a utility pole and overturned, officials said. The Jericho Volunteer Fire Department was called to the intersection of Cedar Swamp and Fruitledge roads around 6 p.m. Saturday, officials said.

Firefighters found a utility pole with transformers down on the roadway and the SUV driver escaped before crews arrived, officials said.

Nassau County and Old Brookville police officers closed Cedar Swamp Road in both directions and took the driver to a hospital.

Utility workers quickly arrived to restore power and clean an oil spill from a leaking transformer.
