Driver Rescued After Car Overturns Into Sump Off LIE
Police were able to rescue the 52-year-old from the car Monday morning.

JERICHO, NY — A 52-year-old man was injured when his car overturned into a sump off the Long Island Expressway Monday morning, Nassau Police said.
According to police, the man's 2020 Ford left North Marginal Road and crashed into the woods on Jericho Turnpike at 11:16 a.m.
The vehicle struck several trees before overturning and landing in a 75-foot sump with 3 feet of water.

The driver was trapped inside the car, which was filling with water, police said.
The Nassau County Emergency Service Unit responded and were able to free the driver using specialized equipment.

A police helicopter and the Jericho Fire Department were able to transport the man to a nearby hospital for treatment. He suffered from possible hypothermia and multiple fractures to both legs.
