Fire Destroys Van On Long Island Expressway; Major Delays

Officials said the fire broke out on the Long Island Expressway during the morning commute.

SYOSSET, NY — A van caught fire Monday morning on the Long Island Expressway and three lanes were closed for over an hour during the morning commute.

Around 7:30 a.m. Monday, the Jericho and Syosset volunteer fire departments arrived to a van engulfed in flames on the eastbound lanes of the expressway near Syosset. Crews extinguished the blaze, which destroyed the vehicle.

Traffic was forced to use just the high-occupancy lane, causing major delays.
