Firefighters Rescue Unconscious Man From Fire In Senior Apartment
The firefighters initially responded to a carbon monoxide activation and forcibly entered the apartment after nobody came to the door.

Three Syosset firefighters rescued an unconscious man from an apartment fire in a Woodbury senior citizen community on Sunday afternoon.
According to fire officials, the Syosset Fire Department responded to an automatic carbon monoxide detector activation at a senior living apartment on Green Way and knocked on the door to receive no response at 3:53 p.m.
Second Assistant Chief Kenneth O’Brien noticed a burning smell and called for a hose line to be stretched from the fire engine to the apartment. Captain Will Sauberman forcibly opened the door and was met with a heavy smoke condition banked to the floor, with only a few inches of visibility, officials say.

Sauberman and firefighter Josh Kerr found the 71-year-old man face-down in the kitchen, unconscious and making a slight moaning sound. Sauberman, Kerr and ex-chief Robert Kaplan carried the man out to the front lawn, where the Syosset Fire Department Emergency Medical Service members began to provide care.
The man regained consciousness while he was being transported to Nassau University Medical Center
