Lunar New Year Celebration Comes to Syosset
Village Elementary students enjoy ringing in the new year.
Village Elementary School students recently rang in the Year of the Sheep with a festive Lunar New Year celebration.
The school’s halls and walls were vibrantly adorned in richly colored red and gold paper lanterns, dragons and streamers. Some students proudly sported traditional Chinese costumes, while members of the Village string ensemble, led by Linda Carrella, entertained everyone with renditions of “Gong Xi” and “Simple Gift.”
The event also featured a pipa (a Chinese instrument) performance by parent-volunteer Amanda Wu. The children were served an Asian-themed lunch of chicken and broccoli, rice and fortune cookies by several PTA volunteers. The event was made possible with the help of PTA chairpersons Ling Chen, Ellie Chuang, Huanyu Duan and Jane Wong.
