Northern State Parkway Crashes: 6 Hospitalized, 1 Critical

JERICHO, NY — Six people were taken to a hospital following two crashes on the Northern State Parkway in Jericho, officials said.

The Jericho Volunteer Fire Department rushed to the westbound lanes of the parkway around 6:30 a.m. Friday near the state Route 107 overpass. While crews worked that scene, a four-car crash happened about 15 minutes later on the eastbound lanes at the same location. One car caught fire in the second crash, officials said.

Additional crews were called from the Hicksville, Syosset and Westbury fire departments to help. Crews removed one person from one vehicle and that individual went into cardiac arrest. Five others also received first aid.

All were taken to Nassau University Medical Center, where one was in critical condition, officials said. The parkway was closed in both directions for more than an hour. The eastbound lanes remained closed as police investigated.
