SYOSSET, NY — Town residents should observe proper safety precautions at the upcoming hazardous materials collection drives through the Town of Oyster Bay's Stop Throwing Out Pollutants program, Oyster Bay Supervisor Town Councilman Tom Hand said.

The Town's S.T.O.P. program allows homeowners to dispose of hazardous household and electronic wastes. Further safety protocols have been implemented to protect public health amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“To protect the environment and ensure the proper disposals of household and electronic wastes, the Town of Oyster Bay offers important collection drives throughout the year,” Hand said. “With many residents uncluttering junk from their homes in recent months, our S.T.O.P. Collection program has proven to be very popular, and we want to ensure everyone’s safety as they drop off their household waste."

All visitors must remain in their vehicles and wear a face mask while interacting with Town staff. All household waste to be disposed must be placed in the rear or trunk of vehicles. A program worker will assist with removing all materials from the back of the vehicle.

“The Town’s S.T.O.P. program provides a great opportunity for our residents to safely dispose of items such as paint, old batteries, various oils and fluids, and other items that should not be thrown into the regular waste stream,” Hand said.
