Police ID Pedestrian Hit, Killed By Car On Long Island Expressway

Police said he was walking on the expressway when he was hit by a driver heading west in the high-occupancy lane.

JERICHO, NY — A Lake Ronkonkoma man has been identified as the pedestrian who was hit and killed by a car Tuesday night on the Long Island Expressway in Jericho.

Sayem Shahrier, 24, was walking on the expressway around 9 p.m. Tuesday near Exit 41, police said. The driver of a Nissan Sentra heading west in the high-occupancy lane hit Shahrier, who died at the scene, police said.

The 67-year-old driver was not hurt and stayed at the scene. A vehicle safety check was conducted and the driver was allowed to leave.

Shahrier's social media accounts said he most recently freelanced as an information technology engineer for a tech company. Before that he was a developer at a tech startup in Massapequa.
