Syosset Girls Basketball Team Cruises To Victory In Quarterfinals

The girls now head to a tough semi-final matchup.

SYOSSET, NY —The Syosset girls basketball team cruised to victory Wednesday evening over Port Washington in the quarterfinals and the team now heads to the semi-finals. The Braves (19-0) entered the game as an unbeaten top seed and remained that way after defeating the Vikings (10-10) 73-28.

The game was played at Syosset High School.

The Braves got off to a fast start in the playoff game, outscoring the Vikings 20-2 in the first quarter and leading 34-7 after the second quarter.

At the end of the game, Caroline Ruggiero led the Braves with 23 points, including nine free throws. Charlotte Twohig and Kendall Halpern each added 15 points of their own, with the duo combining to net four three-pointers.

On the other side, Kate Shanahan led the Vikings with 13 points, followed by Natalie DeMeo with seven.

Syosset moves on to the semi-finals, which will be held at 11 a.m. March 11 at Farmingdale State College. The Braves fell to Baldwin in the Nassau Class AA championship game last year.
