Syosset Middle School Students Honor Dr. King

Syosset students from H.B. Thompson and South Woods middle schools presented a heartfelt recitation of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech.

Syosset students from H.B. Thompson and South Woods middle schools presented a heartfelt recitation of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech to commemorate the speech’s 50th anniversary at the district’s Jan. 13 Board of Education meeting.

During the presentation, titled “We Have a Dream,” four students from each middle school took turns reciting Dr. King’s original speech. While students were speaking, a slideshow of pictures from the two schools, as well as historical photos of Dr. King and the civil rights movement, were displayed. Students also connected the tenets of Syosset’s districtwide character education program PRIDE – which stands for patience, respect, integrity, dignity and empathy – to the points made in the speech.
