Syosset Senior Earns UN Association Award For Community Service
Angela Mao has spent hundreds of hours this year volunteering her time to help save the environment.

SYOSSET, NY — Syosset High School senior Angela Mao has earned a National Community Service Honor Award from the United Nations Association for an outstanding 441 hours of volunteer service this year.
Mao, who will be attending Stanford University in the fall, was specifically recognized for
her special dedication to delivering impact toward the United Nations’ Global Goal of
Responsible Consumption and Production.
She has interned for the Earth Law Center, an organization with the mission to fight
for the rights of nature, and she is also a sustainability researcher at One Community, a non-profit dedicated to creating open-source resources and solutions for all aspects
of sustainable living.

Mao is a member of the Syosset High School Environmental Group, an active member of the Sierra Club and has volunteered most weekends to remove invasive plants from Carpenter Park since 2019.
She is also involved with chairing a committee within the YOuth Advisory Council for the UN Ocean Decade, and is a Discovery Guide Leader at the New York Aquarium. Mao also writes for "Sustain the Mag" and for youth publishing platform INKspire.
